Brussels, February 2026 – Flow Batteries Europe (FBE), the industry association dedicated to advancing flow battery technology and battery energy storage solutions in Europe, is pleased to announce the appointment of Juergen Wieshoff as Head of Governmental and Public Affairs, a newly created honorary position within the organization. This step reflects FBE’s commitment to strengthening its institutional dialogue at European and national level and to actively supporting the European energy transition through long-duration and sustainable battery storage.
In this role, Juergen Wieshoff will focus on intensifying and expanding FBE’s engagement with the European Parliament, the European Commission, and, in particular, the German Federal Government, while fostering constructive dialogue with key stakeholders across the European energy landscape. The objective is to further position Flow Batteries Europe as a reliable partner in shaping Europe’s future energy system and in promoting the role of battery energy storage, particularly flow batteries, in enabling a resilient, renewable-based electricity grid.
FBE President Kees van de Kerk expressed great enthusiasm about the appointment:
“We are delighted that Juergen Wieshoff has agreed to take on this newly established role. With more than 20 years of experience working with European institutions, particularly the European Commission, and a deep and long-standing involvement in the European energy industry, Juergen brings an exceptional combination of strategic insight, policy expertise, and international connectivity. His experience and network make him the ideal person to strengthen Flow Batteries Europe’s relationships with policymakers and to support the deployment of battery energy storage across Europe.”
Over the past decades, Juergen Wieshoff has built an extensive international network and has been actively involved in numerous initiatives at the intersection of European policy and the energy sector. His expertise in European energy markets, regulation, and technology deployment will support FBE’s mission to accelerate the development and integration of flow battery storage as a key enabler of the European energy transition.
Juergen Wieshoff commented on the appointment:
“I am honored to take on the role of Head of Governmental and Public Affairs at Flow Batteries Europe. Strengthening dialogue with the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the German Federal Government, and supporting the expansion of battery energy storage in Europe, are tasks I deeply care about. I look forward to contributing my experience and international network to FBE’s work and am happy to be available as a contact person for partners, policymakers, and stakeholders going forward.”
With this appointment, Flow Batteries Europe reinforces its ambition to actively engage in European policy discussions and to contribute to building a sustainable, flexible, and secure energy system for Europe based on advanced battery storage technologies.
