4 November 2025:

Yesterday, Flow Batteries Europe hosted a webinar on the potential for the EU to build a fully European supply chain for flow batteries, with over 100 participants joining to hear insights from industry leaders on opportunities, challenges, and necessary steps forward.

Speakers & Key Highlights

Anthony Price, Secretary General, Flow Batteries Europe
– Outlined the role of flow batteries in Europe’s clean energy transition: safe, recyclable, non-flammable, and scalable technologies that support long-duration energy storage (LDES).
– Emphasised the EU’s access to essential materials and manufacturing capacity.

Jiří Vrána, Co-Founder, Pinflow
– Explained the structure and sourcing of core flow battery components and the need for common quality protocols to ensure comparability and collaboration across the European value chain.

Thomas Gebauer, CEO, RedoxOne
– Discussed the current status of the supply chain, with raw materials and stacks largely available, but electrolyte manufacturing and stack assembly needing scale-up in Europe.
– Stressed the importance of reducing regulatory barriers and accelerating execution to boost competitiveness.

Matt Harper, President & Co-Founder, Invinity Energy Systems
– Shared practical experience in localising component supply chains.
– Pointed to Europe’s potential to develop vanadium recovery and processing: with a timely and coordinated action, the EU could position itself ahead of global competitors in developing the flow battery and long duration energy storage markets.

Discussion Takeaways
Speakers agreed that Europe has the materials, expertise, and industrial base to establish a strong flow battery supply chain.

What’s needed now is policy alignment, investment, and standardisation to enable scaling and secure Europe’s leadership in the flow battery market.
