Reducing emissions from airport infrastructure and operations is increasingly recognised as a key component of Europe’s broader climate ambitions. In line with the European Green Deal and the Fit for 55 legislative package, airports across the EU have committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Many are pursuing these goals with electrification at the core of their strategies, spanning ground support equipment (GSE), terminal systems, landside fleets, and airside logistics.
Leading hubs such as Amsterdam Schiphol, Paris-CDG, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Zurich, Rome Fiumicino, Oslo, Vienna, and others are already making significant investments in the technologies and infrastructure needed to facilitate this transition. These initiatives not only respond to regulatory requirements but also reflect a wider commitment to enhancing operational efficiency, reducing long-term energy costs, and fostering sustainable growth.
This transformation is, however, complex. Delivering a fully electrified airport ecosystem requires integrated planning, upgraded electrical systems, investment in smart charging and grid infrastructure, and the flexibility to integrate renewable energy sources. The success of this transition will depend on strong collaboration between airport operators, government agencies, utilities, OEMs, solution providers, and investors, and will need supportive regulation and targeted funding mechanisms. Public-private partnerships and alignment with EU policies will be critical in enabling airports to fulfil their climate commitments.
In light of these developments, Global Transmission Report is excited to announce the launch edition of the Airport Electrification Europe conference, to be held on October 28, 2025, at Novotel Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam. This one-day conference will explore the practical, policy, and technological pathways for the electrification of airport infrastructure and operations to build a greener, more resilient, and efficient aviation sector.
The event will bring together policymakers, airport authorities and operators, the EU and national government agencies, technology providers, electric power utilities, solution providers, and industry experts to present their perspectives and discuss solutions and best practices for accelerating electrification at airports.
This launch conference builds on the strong foundation we have established through the Airport Electrification series in the US, which successfully brought together hundreds of stakeholders over the past two years. Those events featured insightful discussions on meeting airports’ energy needs, deploying zero-emission equipment, and navigating the evolving policy and funding landscape.
With Europe’s ambitious decarbonisation targets, growing momentum across its leading airports, and a strong demand for shared learning and cross-border collaboration, Amsterdam is a timely and fitting next step in the series. Join us at this conference to help shape the future of greener, electrified airport infrastructure in Europe.
