Flow Batteries Europe welcomes the European Commission’s ambition to increase EU energy storage capacity to 200 GW by 2030 and 400 GW by 2040, while recognising the vital role of LDES.
Now, the focus must shift from ambition to implementation.
To unlock Europe’s industrial potential and strengthen energy security, the EU and Member States must deliver:
– Revenue certainty mechanisms for LDES
– Lead markets for long-duration storage technologies
– An end to unfair double charging of energy storage
Europe has a unique opportunity to lead the global race for LDES and technologies such as flow batteries can play a critical role in supporting renewable integration, AI data centres, industry and grid resilience.
