Flow Batteries Europe is the leading voice for the flow battery sector, bringing together industry, researchers and policymakers to accelerate the deployment of flow batteries. We help shape the legal framework for flow batteries at the EU level, contribute to the EU decision-making process, as well as help define R&D priorities. Since 2021, Flow Batteries Europe is working to create and reinforce networks between key stakeholders in the flow battery industry.

Our mission

Flow Batteries Europe gathers interested stakeholders to advance R&D, commercialisation and deployment of flow batteries in Europe. To achieve this, the Secretariat engages and promotes flow batteries with European and other relevant organisations.

What we do?

At FBE, we are working every day to further enhance the profile of flow batteries as a key energy storage solution. Flow battery technologies are growing in visibility and their necessity for Europe’s energy transition is undeniable.

FBE has solidified the role of flow batteries as a key energy storage solution through its targeted advocacy activities and close collaboration with European policymakers.

We are working proactively to ensure that the interests of the sector are appropriately represented in policy. Read about the work we did in 2025 in our Activity Report.

Our current work is focused on two priorities that will have a significant impact on the future of the sector:

1. Creating lead markets for flow batteries, ensuring they are deployed at scale in applications where they offer clear technical and economic advantages.
2. Securing revenue certainty for long-duration energy storage, helping create market conditions that enable investment and commercial deployment.

How we work?

Our association’s work is split into three committees, which are the following:

Policy and Technical Committee:
The Policy and Technical Committee is FBE’s main forum for regulatory engagement and lobbying activities. Members will contribute to public consultations, co-develop policy white papers, and provide input ahead of meetings with EU policymakers.

Workstream 2 – Communications Committee:
The Communications Committee focuses on promoting flow batteries to decision-makers and the wider public. Members will review and contribute to campaign materials, help organise FBE webinars and events, and support the dissemination of content developed across the association.

Workstream 3 – Standards and Best Practices:
The Standards and Best Practices workstream aims to strengthen the flow battery ecosystem through collaboration on technical standards and sector-wide knowledge sharing.
